The Centre of Excellence in Customised Assembly (CECA) will officially be launched on 28 February 2008. CECA is a collaboration between the Universities of Loughborough, Nottingham and Sheffield and backed by many industry partners.
CECA is the only one of its kind in the UK, focusing exclusively on assembly improvements and opening its research, expertise and innovations to industry.
The launch event will be attended by industry professionals, particularly those in aerospace, defence, pharmaceutical/medical device and automotive sectors. Guest speakers will include industrial specialists and F1 test driver Perry McCarthy, who will speak about the current and future challenges for assembly and how CECA will help manufacturers to excel in the changing landscape.
The launch event will be held at the Factory of the Future on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (map) between 3pm and 6pm on 28th February.

The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing has won national recognition by winning the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education which commends 'outstanding achievement at a world-class level'. The award is assessed by a specialist panel over several months, and then put forward by the Prime Minister to the Queen for Royal Assent.

International engineering company ABB Limited invited manufacturers and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in Rotherham to attend its robotics roadshow on the 9th of October, at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Catcliffe, to find out how they could transform their performance with robotic technology. One of 11 nationwide stops, the roadshow highlights the important role the industrial application of robots can play in enhancing productivity and profitability and in helping to ensure the long term sustainability of the UK’s manufacturing industry.

The Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) have awarded the AMRC and the Universities of Loughborough and Nottingham £4.8m to develop a Centre of Excellence in Customised Assembly (CECA). The AMRC are leading the project and will focus on the development of expertise in the assembly of large aerospace components. CECA will be established within CAMTeC and will assist CAMTeC to raise its competence in the manufacture of hybrid structures.
